The latest progress in the third stage of 5G has pushed 5G construction to a new climax. In terms of network layout, China Telecom has tended to deploy 5G independently from the beginning, and has attracted the attention of the whole industry with its straightforward strategic posture.
Recently, during the 2018 Beijing Communications Exhibition, China Telecom’s 5G progress was also announced to the entire industry: In terms of 5G standards, China Telecom has led 23 international standards and 139 invention patents; in terms of national science and technology, it has undertaken 23 major national science and technology projects. Items, leading 7 items. In terms of network deployment, since the launch of the 6-city 5G experimental network in the second quarter of 2017, China Telecom completed all planned test projects in the third quarter of this year. According to the deployment of the National Development and Reform Commission, it has launched trial commercial-scale 5G projects in 17 cities. Cooperate with multiple manufacturers to conduct independent networking tests and commercial trials.
Among them, the Xiong’an and Suzhou 5G pilot projects jointly deployed by China Telecom and ZTE have caused important influence and smart manufacturing demonstration effects, which have attracted particular attention from the industry.
It is reported that ZTE has actively participated in various 5G technology research organized by China Telecom since 2016, and has carried out internal and external field testing of 5G key technologies, simulation of related technical characteristics, and simulation of related industry application characteristics with China Telecom. In June 2018, the first version of 5G, R15, was frozen. After ZTE resumed business on July 14, it caught up with other vendors’ test progress within 24 days, and basically completed the relevant tests within two months. The first 3.5 was completed at the Guangzhou Telecom Research Institute on September 4. The G-band SA architecture is based on the R15 version of the operator’s infield firstcall. On September 20, ZTE completed the first operator's outfield 3.5G band SA architecture based on the R15 version of the end-to-end full-service communication in the Xiongan New District on a pilot basis, which aroused strong concern from the industry.
Network deployment and key technology research and development are both sparks of cooperation
So, what are the key points of the cooperation between the two sides? Bi Qi, chief engineer of China Telecom Research Institute, and Gu Xiang, vice president of ZTE Corporation, were interviewed by the media.
Bi Qi introduced to all media reporters from Communications World that China Telecom has now clarified the focus of the three stages of 5G. One is that it has done a lot of work on network research and standardization; the second stage is 5G field testing. Since the middle of last year, 5 to 10 pilot stations have been built in 6 cities across the country, mainly to study key technologies, to understand the performance of 5G in wireless, and the feasibility of Massive MIMO, and its performance.
"Through this year's test, we have a good grasp of the performance of 5G wireless. According to the test results of the first stage, China Telecom released the first complete 5G white paper to the world. In the white paper, China Telecom explains China Telecom’s 5G technology trend has been pointed out to manufacturers around the world to make equipment in 5G, which greatly simplifies their operations. In the third stage, China Telecom has added 5G pilots in 11 cities. The 5G trial commercial pilots have been increased to 17 cities. According to the 5G international standard, optimize the network architecture and performance under the 3GPP standard, verify the independent network, and accumulate 5G deployment experience through friendly user trials." Bi Qi said.
